Christmas 1998 at 38 Derby Road

25 December 1998

We are lucky to have Grandpa Hans and Grannie Jessie up from Cape Town to celebrate Christmas with us.

Early this morning Shingi and Temba got up, splurged on their stocking contents, and then made tea and coffee for parents and grandparents. Then the real fun started ... here you see Shingi holding the wonderful parcel from Deirdre. Also both boys have face paint from Bronxville.
The highlight of the morning for Colleen and Mish were the presents handmade for them by Shingi and Temba. Shingi made Mish a wonderful toy computer; Temba made Mish a dream catcher mobile, and he made this great necklace for Colleen.

And then we had Christmas lunch at our "braai in the sky" spot at the top of our backyard hillside. Here is Grannie Jessie in the shade of the Jacaranda:

And here is Shingi offering olives to his Grandpa Hans:

And of course, it isn't a South African Christmas without a swim! Below, watch the progress of Temba doing a flip into the pool:
And here is Shingi doing a back flip

As we write this, everyone is slacking out in the afternoon warmth after a monster lamb chop and boerwors braai. Champagne toasts to absent friends and family were plentiful and equally warm! Wish you were here too! Here's Mish drinking a toast to you (on Christmas eve):
