Farewell Hans - Dad - Grandpa - Uncle Hans; 8 March 2002

	Extracts from Paul's email: Sadly, it is my duty to let you all know that shortly after I wrote to tell you about my father being hospitalised following a massive stroke, I was called by his doctor to tell me that he had passed away. Hans Middelmann died on Friday 8th March 2002 at about 1.00 pm. so ending a life of almost 90 years, nearly 65 of those years in South Africa. For all of us, my Mom Jessie, myself, my sister Julia, and brothers Carl and Mish, and also Dad's brother Walter and Dad's sister Gertie, it came suddenly and although one is perhaps always aware that life can end suddenly when one is at an advanced age, one is probably never ready for it. He will be sadly missed by us all.
We tried to communicate this sad news as quickly as possible to all family members and close friends by phone, letter, fax or email. We did not intend that this web page would be the primarly means of informing anyone who was close to Hans and to our family. If that should turn out to be the case, please accept our sincere aplogies and regrets for any electronic glitches or other failures that may have intervened. Also please understand that this bare page in no way reflects our feelings. For us an era has ended. So many memories remain. We were richly blessed and give thanks for Dad's long and happy life. Elsewhere on this website you can read some of the addresses and tributes to Hans and an obituary published in the Sunday Times. Later we intend to add more commemorative photos and stories on this website but it will take a while.
